The majestic Matitanana River is a valuable source of water but can flood and destroy
crops during the rainy season. Significant protection can be provided by planting reed beds along the river banks and this is
now in place over 4 kilometres of the river, thanks to funding from 16 Girl Guides from North Yorkshire West who visited in 2013. The treadle pumps we provided some years ago are still in use on a cooperative basis. As a result, the vegetable farming on the fertile river banks is increasing year on year and the King told us he needed no funding this year from TASC. What a result!
